Why we are in love with DOLLY DOODLING and future plans

There are many ballerina drawings and doodles and many of them beautiful and nice, but when I stumbled on this doodled ballerina I immediately fell in love and had to get her for my ballet athleisure collection. 

She looks shy, yet confident. She breathes fashion and fun and loved by all ages, because she is Disney-ish, Betty Boop-isch, childish, but at the same time shows off all her grown-up feminine style. She is elegant, graceful and sweet, ... and above all, she is a ballerina.

Once I got her fully licensed by young artist Georgie Mackrill I started designing our new lifestyle concept: Athleisure: casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear. Everybody needed to accustom to a new way of life this year by staying and working from home, which involves a change in the wardrobe. Comfortable remaining stylish and to keep healthy and fit exercising is done mostly at home as well. DOLLY's signature has always been comfortable coming from the ballet inspiration, so my new DOLLY SPORTS collection with hoodies, yoga leggings , shirts, sneakers and socks. was born. Girls, Teens and Women can indulge themselves and move through life with a new friend DOLLY DOODLING. 

CREATIVE & COLORFUL 

DOLLY DOODLING is for creative colorful Dolly girls that love colors, coloring, drawing and doodling. 

Doodles:  When I was young the phones were stuck to the walls, so you’ll sit next to the phone talking. While doing that you start drawing doodle on this old fashioned block note. The next person, my older brother, having a phone conversation, doodled on that same drawing. After a certain time this doodle becomes quite a piece of art and that piece of paper so thin some lines were doodled over so many time, they cut the paper…

Colors: My DOLLY slogan ' Confess Color' comes from my passion for colors. As a child I loved the primary colors from Piet Mondriaan and the Gerrit Rietveld chair ( Both Dutch artists). The DOLLY DOODLING collection shows, besides our ballet blush, some new bold colors and I literally mean a new color. Ever heard of YinMin? It's not just a new color, it is a new pigment. ( it has been more than 200 years an actual new pigment has been found). DOLLY DOODLING is available in YinMin and It will Blue your mind :-)

TEEN S & WOMEN FASHION

Our in-house muse model is growing into a Teen, so my designs and inspiration grow with her. She loves hoodies and sweaters with a good design and print, therefore the DOLLY brand expands with many styles for Teens and Women.

The DOLLY DOODLING collection is ethically made-to-order just for you so you will have an exclusive piece and because we don't mass produce there is no overstock which is better for our planet. This fits in the slow-fashion trend, but I need you to know that the DOLLY brand has always followed this new trend when I started 16 years ago creating continuous and timeless styles... even when I love fashion, I hate seasonals that are suddenly ' out of fashion' after hanging in store for a ridiculous short time of 2 months. So remember that Style Never Goes Out Of Fashion.

Behind the scenes @ Dani Geddes photoshoot DOLLY Golightly

DOLLY's new 2020 collection DOLLY GOLIGHTLY is the ballet version of the iconic dresses from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. Black and Tiffany blue combined with Dolly's ballet pink in a beautiful collection of maxi tutu dresses, tutu's and tops.  Inspired by the chandelier in the shop window of the Tiffany's store in New York in the openings scene the maxi capes are embellished to give sparkle when you will wear at a party.

DOLLY's new Footwear - Stunning Wedge Espadrilles

DOLLY'S NEW FOOTWEAR - STUNNING WEDGE ESPADRILLES

As the Dolly designer I am enjoying my holidays in the south of Spain for the last 5 years. The most worn shoes in Spain are ... yes, correct Espadrilles. They look so simple and, not to be rude, dull in a way, but.... if you have ever worn them, you know why every Spaniard, men, women and children walks on these traditional shoes.  They are so comfortable, it's crazy. I walk miles and hike mountains on them, wear them during gardening and in winter as bedroom slippers. I think I have worn down a couple of dozen by now. Have them in all colors of the rainbow, to make sure they do match the clothes I'm wearing. They are very vegan with the jute and the canvas which fits in the now. No sweaty feet and no dirt gets in when walking the dusty roads of Spain.  Have to admit that my mother, who also wore the traditional as well as the wedge Espadrilles, which I found ugly as a child, but since my mother is no longer with us and I discover more and more she had many Spanish items, I now, as an adult, adore that so much as well as the Espadrilles shoes :-) 

 ... so there you have it, my inspiration for the style and material for Dolly's new shoe collection is clear: Spanish Espadrilles!

As a young girl I always loved the fifties & sixties Hollywood movie stars and especially their photos in black & white. It will not be news to you that Audrey Hepburn is one of the stars I love. Fashion from those two specific decades are also always the base of every Dolly collection. Those were times before I was even born, so don't know why I always loved those times.   In 1987 I was a 16 year old  and I had the oppertunity to visit London, because my eldest brother lived there at the time. I was a pretty punk in those days and saw the 'real' punks in Camden London and 'scored' a T-shirt with a Marilyn Monroe eyes and mouth which I found like it was gold. Also I bought a pair of brown leather lace up boots which were lined with fabric fully printed with a lot of different Hollywood movie stars in black and white. More gold for me. I don't remember the brand, but they were thrown away only after looking like boots worn by a poor person living on the street with holes which I did not care about. Remainings of several times glewing all back together would not mind me from wearing them to our band rehearsels and 'gigs' we had at the time. ( yes, I was a singer in a band for 10 years :-)   In those days printing was not as easy as now, and finding such items between the tees of Madonna and Prince was extremely rare, so if you did it was like finding gold.  Long time short I love fifties and sixties movie star pictures, fashion and art from those days like pop-art and the make-up with the big eye-liners.... all resulting in the new DOLLY Printed Fashion, Shoes and ...Make-up collections coming up.  I put our Angela doll pictures on all sides of the shoes, giving it a sweet colored pop-art look. The Dolly Face ( our brand mascotte, a ballerina with Dolly eyes) in color and black and white, Mrs. Golightly with all her icons and more. Magic of Mother Nature: Cotton, Crystals and Gemstones - DOLLY presenting AW19 at Playtime Paris and Ciff Youth

Believe it or not, but Crystals and Gemstones have magic! 

Here's a story about inspiration and some wondered of personal chit chat 

My new collection of DOLLY by Le Petit Tom ® is called the Jewelers Crystals Collection. Let me tell you all about where my inspiration came from. My grandfather, whom I unfortunately never met because he passed away long before I was born, was a jeweler and he used many real crystals and gemstones in his jewelry. Everybody, especially girls, must remember that as you saw a real crystal stone or gemstone they had something special. The colors, the shape, shiny or not. The knowledge that these stones had 'power' came to me through two women, a mother of a friend of mine Rini and the other a very dear friend of my mother, Ada which I called 'aunt Ada'. Clear Crystal they used to give me during my teens. Good for everything if you did not need a stone for something in particular. They told me if the stone did its job, cracks would appear, but that was a good sign. Personally I'm a very down to earth type, ( I come from Friesland, the part of the Netherlands where we are particularly known for that)  but crystals do give me a spiritual feeling that I like. If it works, fine, if it does not work, still fine. I simply love the crystals and gemstones for their colors, and how beautiful they can be used to make jewelry and embellish my DOLLY tutu dresses ..... and their energy :-)

Here's a sneak preview zoom of my personal favorite dress from the entire collection: The Moonstone dress. Crinkled cotton in a natural color. Bodice of cotton lace and embellished with real moonstones. The moonstone is a magical stone that connects you to your divine feminine and inner goddess.

And so my Jewelers Crystals collection originated. Crinkled Cotton, cotton lace, tulle, textured woven cotton are used for tutu dresses, skirts, maxi skirts, tops, maxi cape, tulle capes, jackets and many hand made necklaces and accessories. I used real crystals and gemstones like moonstone, onyx, lapis, emerald, clear crystal, rose quartz, aquamarine, amethyst, smokey topaz, citrine, clear quartz to embellish them. All hand made pieces with lots of details, hand crotched buttons and so on. Of course I added jewelry as well with real crystals and gemstones like earrings and armbands. Each one reflecting the ones from my grandfather and ones like I wore in my teens. ( I was a neat punk always wearing big modern shaped earrings. During my 20 years era of having kids practically none, due to avoiding the practical reason they'll rip them out of your ear, where I recently started wearing them again, since it's safe again... apart from our new wolf like pup we got since 7 weeks. Atka, new friend for Sofie, the little dachshund, which you know from appearing in all my photoshoots at least ones. Can't wait to use Atka in them, especially when she will be fully grown and looking like a real wolf )

The overall look of the Jewelers Crystals collection is very luxurious and high end but at the same time a very bohemian, easy to wear look. Boho Chic with the signature ballet element. I had parties, weddings and Dolly days at the beach in mind. After all my slogan for DOLLY still remains: '... cause they* want to wear this everyday anyway!'

* 'They' in above sentence refers to all little girls, wanting to wear their Dolly tutu 24/7, but for this collection I have the Dolly women in mind as well. So for you craving that mother and daughter look; go for it! DOLLY sells baby, girls and women sizes now. 

Each item from the Jewelers Crystal collection with gemstones is timeless and can be worn for seasons to come.... yes, I follow the 'slow fashion' trend but for me it's not a trend. The DOLLY brand I created almost 15 years ago with the slow fashion element already, because a DOLLY piece I create not as just a simple piece of clothing but more as a keepsake, great for a gift and for special days you worn it or your baby girl wore it to remember....sorry, I think I do get a bit off the earth now :-)  must come from having 5 wonderful children.
